You’ll be surprised by the beauty you’ll find snuggled in the foothills of the Piketberg Mountains. Flowing wheat and canola fields and fruit and wine farms form an ever-changing tapestry around the village, morphing from emerald greens to golden yellows and wine reds as the different seasons pass over the region. Wind your way along the Versfeld Pass to the top of the mountain, Piket-bo-Berg, and stay over at one of the quant facilities in the midst of nature. Piketberg, just over an hour’s drive from the Mother City, is a historic town and served as a defensive barrier as early as 1655. This is also where its name comes from. Piquet being a military term for a line of soldiers placed forward of a position in order to warn against enemy advance.
